    Ryujin Shinobigatana

Yup. IMHO, the people who fill in the certs are using a printer app in Chinese, and can't actually read English very well. Here's a link to my Ryujin Hatamoto review, for reference: https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/62852/ryujin-carbon-hatamoto-series-katana

Looks like it's a shorter and simpler version of the Hatamoto that they sent me, without the bo-hi, or the fancy tsuba.. I'd expect it to cut about as well. The certificate looks to have some minor inaccuracies in what metals the fittings are made of, the seppa and habaki are brass, while the...

Thanks for the pics. What I could find with Photoshop follows First, here's why I said the mei on your sword is gimei. The two pics on the left are yours. The pic on the right is a known good, NBTHK Hozon papered example for Yoshisada. Note that the characters on the certified example are...

The fittings look to be real Japanese. The blade may be as well, but I cannot tell from the poor photographs. The signature, in my opinion, is fake. I would need much better photographs to determine an age or possible maker for the blade.

If authentic, the mei (signature) would read "Nobukuni Minamoto Yoshisada", and it would be circa 1630's, but nothing about the signature or the nakago (tang) looks right. Here's some references: https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/YOS731...

Hi! Welcome to the forum! If you could, please post good full length photos of both sides of the blade, and info on where you got it. Thanks!

    My newest katana...

Fun, isn't it? BTW, you'll probably get called a dork again. Just say, "yes, dear." :D

    My newest katana...

OK. That's annoying. You may have to drill it out. Have you looked at the tsuba? I have 2 like it that I bought from different Japanese sellers to make a daisho (one was smaller, but same pattern). The low opening bid caught my eye, while I was checking Mugendo to see if they had anything...

    My newest katana...

Here's a fast tsuba recommendation from someone I have bought from. NOTE DO NOT BID ON THIS IF YOU ARE IN CANADA!!! The auction is over in 2 hours and a few minutwes, get cracking!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/353609727737?hash=item5254c83ef9:g:SvgAAOSwqIVg~IFR

    My newest katana...

That looks like a very nice blade. Some hamon close ups would be appreciated. My approach is to buy parts and materials to construct my own koshirae, but I have a fairly decent wood, leather, and metalworking shop here, with adequate tools. I use mostly antique tsuba and fuchigashira, which...

Buying a custom, modern, katan or wakizasha

I have yet to buy anything over $500, and that $500 was for a Muromachi-era katana blade from a Japanese antique dealer, neither have I bought any custom swords. I've bought a wide variety of antique blades and fittings, tools, sharpening stones, and books from Japanese sellers, without any bad...

    What exactly is a "ninja"?

IMHO, in modern terms, it was a specialty recon MOS field you trained and qualled for, but not something you did as a career. Edit-- Taisha Ryu kenjutsu (a relative/predecessor of Togo Jigen Ryu, offshoot of Shinkage-Ryu, and founded during the Sengoku), still taught at one dojo in Yatsushiro...

Wajirou Ichisada's "collection"- found in a sewer near the pumping station....

If you take a look at my stuff, none of my Chinese katana blades cost me more than $170 US (not that you can tell it by looking at them), or less than $127. I have a strong suspicion that most of the Chinese blades available, of a given sugata, hamon, and jigane are made using standardized...
