I bought a Hanwei Raptor Shobu-Zukuri today, should be here sometime next week, hopefully. I’ll get better pics of it once it’s here… until then, here’s a description of the katana, the specs, and a few pictures I took from the seller.

Description:
The Raptor Shobu-Zukuri (Iris Leaf) blade has an elegant shape and powerful cutting ability. Notable for the absence of a Yokote transition, this blade design became popular during the Nanbokucho era (1336 ~1392 AD) and its popularity continued into the Muromachi period. The wood grip is wrapped in genuine ray skin and black suede. The blackened iron tsuba has a raptor design. Includes a matching scabbard with matte finish and cotton sword bag.

The Hanwei Raptor series, has been designed for the cutting practitioner who does not necessarily have access to mats but who wishes to practice and perfect his cutting technique. The blades are forged in 5160 high-carbon steel and specially heat treated to produce very high resilience and greater tolerance of misdirected cuts than a conventional differentially tempered blade. The edge geometry is configured to facilitate the cutting of both soft and semi-hard materials without chipping, allowing the cutter a wide choice of targets.

Congrats!
Thats a very nice sword in the Raptor family. I really liked using my buddies. I have the heavier Nanbochuko from the same collection.
Theres some work to do on mine--new tsuka and wrap, some laquer work on the saya. Its a half-abandoned project from another user at SBG I'll finish this winter.
Just ran into..."self doubt" in my skills to finish it (and im missing tools in my silversmithing arsenal ... i could really use a custom swage block)Screenshot_20220120-191847_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220120-191909_Gallery.jpg

Heres where i stalled a little while back on the tsuka i was making. Theres roughly 4" of samegawa then 5" double thick layer of deer leather dyed black then a piece of samegawa 2" then the unkoshiraed tsukawood. (This one lacks the .925 fittings I hade made--they became recycled into a werewolf killing ring) Screenshot_20220121-162512_Gallery.jpg
